JH Snowboarder Mag Party brings Zion I

(Published in Jackson Hole Weekly, additional content added)The annual release of Jackson Hole Snowboarder Magazine is linked to its legendary sold-out parties. First at 43 North, then at Snow King Resort, followed by two years at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar (including an impromptu Justin Timberlake/Brother Ali showdown), and last year’s blow out with Yelawolf - this party continues to reinvent itself. This year, the throw-down in the Pink Garter will feature Zion I at a discounted ticket price.Zion I is an Oakland hip-hop duo consisting of producer/DJ Amplive and emcee Zumbi. The group is known for Amp's futuristic production techniques — using a mix of live instrumentation and samples — and Zumbi's positive and socially conscious lyrics. Zion I debuted in 1997 with the locally distributed cassette-only EP Enter the Woods, and went on to release nine more albums among a smattering of EPs and compilations, even some output with side project The Grouch. The latest Zion I album is Shadowboxing (2012), a thirteen-track set that leans heavier towards a dance-pop formula and features Bassnectar on a pumped-up remix of “Human Being.”Not just a one-trick show, this will play out like a hip-hop showcase of short sets including Kap Kallous, Indefinate Etticate, Phonetic, Odyssey, Brief of Mask and Glove, Jacob Jump & Gabzilla. Also, get your hands on some raffle tickets for prizes from Lib Tech, Never Summer, Smith Optics and others. 5th Annual Jackson Hole Snowboarder Magazine Party, 8 p.m., Saturday, at the Pink Garter Theatre. Tickets are $25, available at The Rose, Pinky G’s and PinkGarterTheatre.com.
