Flannels to celebrate eponymous EP
(Published in Jackson Hole Weekly, additional content added) Back in October, I asked singer-songwriter-guitarist Pat Chadwick of The Flannel Attractions what the band would like to accomplish in the coming year [“The New Jackson Attraction,” 10.31.12]: “The goal is to release the EP that we are working on...see where we can go with it.”Three months later and about a year after forming, the quintet (Chadwick, banjoist Jessie Lestitian, violinist/vocalist Emily Yarbrough, mandolinist Lucas Nash, and bassist Leif Routman—will release a self-titled EP of original tunes that fall in a space Chadwick calls “indie-folk with bluegrass flair.”“We recorded and mixed it in a spare room at my condo, essentially combining the basic knowledge that three of us have accumulated through past recording classes and other projects,” Chadwick said. “It felt like being in one of those middle-school clubs where you build a model spaceship together after class.”The EP includes the songs: "Next September," "Before You Came Along," "Diana," "Better Part of Me," and standout track "Kerosene." In the coming weeks, it will be available online via CD Baby, iTunes and Bandcamp, as well as streaming via Spotify. For now, stream the EP in its entirety at http://theflannelattractions.bandcamp.com/While Chadwick credits Ryan Adams, David Gray and Ray LaMontagne as songwriting influences, the hybrid style is also reflected in some of their non-original material ala Arcade Fire, The Postal Service, Paul Simon, and John Prine. The Flannel Attractions EP Release, 8 p.m., Tuesday Feb. 12, at Dornan’s in Moose. Tickets are $10, available at Dornan’s and Valley Bookstore. 733-2415.
