Three Hearted Recording
Located in Hoback, Wyoming ("Hoback Nation") just south of Jackson Hole, Three Hearted Recording offers professional grade recording, audio production and mixing, and a session musician resource in a mountainside cabin setting.
A log cabin nestled at the intersection of three mountain ranges — the Wyoming Range, Gros Ventre Mountains, and the Tetons — Three Hearted Recording studio was established by songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/producer/engineer Aaron Davis in 2016. He was immediately inspired by the location and warm sounding space, and the vaulted cabin room has become the bedrock of accurate translation and articulation of the music being captured.
Aaron’s philosophy of what inspires great recordings has come from studying iconic producers and timeless recordings. Coupled with both formal and informal training, trial-by-experimentation has played out over the course making his own nine studio albums — perhaps none more impressionable than Screen Door Porch‘s studio sessions working with top-notch engineers and musicians in Austin. Great performances are harvested from good energy, and they are captured with a professional and engaged team that cares deeply about the final product.
Thanks to a number of studio updates in 2019, quality and capacity have taken yet another modern step in the realm of analog-based, digital capture. High fidelity has always been a priority and incremental investments have proved a dedication to foster quality output. The latter includes extended capacity for latency-free live tracking with musicians in the same room. High-end industry preamps and D/A converters from Apogee and Great River Electronics, vintage style outboard compressors, a new monitoring system for several individual headphone mixes, and a super-charged Mac are among the recent hardware upgrades.
Top notch gear, a shelf full of microphones, and a machine full of plugins is only one side of the mountain. Three Hearted Recording aims to cultivate a low-key, supportive vibe for artists to thrive in their sessions. Whether you are a full band making an album or a solo act looking to add textures to your songs utilizing a regional network of stellar studio players, there are various ways to tailor the recording process to the music being captured. Feel free to reach out with questions about establishing a game plan to capture your latest project.
Recent projects include: folk-country band Coyote Queen, songwriter Jason Tyler Burton, swing trio The Minor Keys, Isaac Hayden, jazz vocalist/guitarist Quinn Cerovski, Micah Maly, Clint King, Kathy McCann, and The Mystery Machine.
What’s with the Three Hearted name?
The studio is located between three legendary rivers (the Snake, the Hoback, and the Greys) and three mountain ranges (Wyoming Range, Gros Ventre Mountains, and the Tetons). Hike, fish, bike or ski in between sessions! And its worth keeping in mind that recording is a Three Hearted process — the artist’s heart, the engineer/producer’s heart, and the third heart of enigmatic truth that keeps the mind open and alert.
