The Goods: Sibleys, King St. Ramblers, B-Side Players, BOOM CHICK, Lazy Eyes

By Aaron Davis (for JHWeekly.com)Sibley homecoming with Ramblers With two kids and a few instruments, folk/bluegrass duo Anne and Pete Sibley sold their Jackson home in August of 2011 and hit the road – indefinitely. Nearly a year later, they have crisscrossed the country playing festivals, theaters and house concerts while bouncing from town to town and figuring it out along the way. King Street Ramblers features a trio of vocalists – guitarist Tom Marshall, mandolinist Tim Farris, and the common thread of these two projects, clawhammer banjo picker Pete Sibley. The Ramblers released a fine sounding, self-titled studio release this past March with a mix of originals and superb harmony-filled covers (“Atlantic City” and “Ticket to Ride”). The Sibleys and King Street Ramblers perform at 7 p.m., Sunday, at the Black Box Theater in the Center for the Arts. $20 at Global Treasures. 733-2427. It only takes two The White Stripes made it rad, while BOOM CHICK puts a surf-garage spin on the female drummer/male guitarist duo format. Both vocalists, Frank Hoier and Moselle Spiller put out a seven-inch single this past February, Shake Can Well. The lyrics of the title track can be found in your garage on the back of your favorite aerosol spray can, weighted by heavy disco-delta slide guitar. Moselle’s ability to learn drums in a matter of three short months led to the band’s name. Loft parties in Brooklyn circa 2008 has led to four national tours, Magnet Magazine’s Best of 2010 List, several songs featured in skateboard videos for Thrasher Magazine, and a tune in ESPN’s X series, “The Kids.” BOOM CHICK, Lazy Eyes, and Isaac Hayden perform at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, at Snow King Ball Field. The rhythms here are fierce, and this octet is on point with the political climate in a WAR-meets-Marley fusion that has left many regional dance floors sweaty and begging for more.
