The Goods: Pert Near Sandstone, Ghost Rider, Jerry Joseph

By Aaron Davis (12.08.11 for Jackson Hole Weekly, JHWeekly.com)Ghost Rider and Guerilla Jackson Hole, Wyo.-There’s a new band in town full of familiar faces. Spreading the love of outlaw country with a Johnny Cash-heavy repertoire mixed with Willie, Merle and some original songs, Ghost Rider sounds interesting simply from its list of members. Fronted by the fittingly gruff baritone of Pete Muldoon (The Foundation) on guitar/keys, the quintet also includes Jeff Eidemiller (Soul Impressions) and Jeremy Cohen (The Deadlocks) on guitar, Marshall Davis (Mandatory Air) on bass, and John Wayne Harris Jr. and Andy Peterson (Screen Door Porch) sharing drumming duties.Muldoon and Eidemiller also combine forces as DJ Guerrilla MD, delivering hip-hop, house, dub-step, and pop, backed by keys, synth and guitar. Ghost Rider and DJ Guerrilla MD play the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Employee Party at 10 p.m., Wednesday, at Cutty’s. Open to the public. Free for employees. 732-0001.Pert Near the West BankThere’s little reason why Pert Near Sandstone should fly under the radar around these parts. Embodying the old-time-new-time philosophy of string band music, this Twin Cities ensemble is certainly one of the most intriguing of bluegrass outfits to keep Jackson on its radar in recent memory. It’s strength in multiple songwriters and singers sparks out-of-the-norm melodic choices too, not just hot-pickin’ the traditional. Add raw energy and a serious touring habit, your about to see one very tight band. Strengthening this bill is our own Random Canyon Growlers, on the verge of releasing a Vermont-grown live album. What’s Good Here? Productions presents Pert Near Sandstone with guests Random Canyon Growlers, at 9 p.m., Saturday, at Q Roadhouse. $10 at the door. WhatsGoodHereProductions.com or 739-0700. Joseph soloWhile its no secret that captivating a Jackson bar crowd as a solo singer-songwriter can be challenging, Jerry Joseph is an ideal fit for such a situation. Joseph has a devoted cult following here, and once played Teton County so often that he was bordering local status. Here’s a chance for fans to hear the songs stripped down and lyric-focused.  307 Live presents Jerry Joseph 10 p.m., Tuesday, Town Square Tavern. $10.
