The Goods: One Ton Pig CD Release, Crawfish Boil, Mariachi Divas

By Aaron Davis (for JHWeekly.com)One Ton Pig releases studio debut With more than 60 shows on the books for summer, including regional festival stages and two local residencies, it’s a wonder One Ton Pig had time to finish it’s self-titled debut studio release. The release is the band’s third and a follow-up to a pair of live albums—High on the Hog (2008) and Big Norm (2010)—that were recorded at Teton Valley venues.Self-produced, One Ton Pig was recorded, mixed and mastered at Henhouse Studio in Victor. The bulk of the recording took place in February with guest appearances by Matt Herron (fiddle), Ben Winship (backing vocals), Matt Flinner (banjo), and Ross Martin (guitar). The 12 tracks feature three songs written by Tim Farris, two by Justin Smith, and the remainder by Michael Batdorf, who is also due to release a solo album this summer. One Ton Pig has become the most accessible local band on the scene, and helped make Bluegrass Tuesdays at the Silver Dollar such a popular night. A tremendous effort from five of the valley’s most talented. One Ton Pig will celebrate with a CD Release Party, 7:30 to 11 p.m., Tuesday, at the Silver Dollar Bar.
