The Goods: Hoot and Holler
By Aaron Davis (for JHWeekly.com)Before Dornan’s closes its doors for the month of November, The Jackson Hole Hootenanny will have one last session, reconvening in early December. Better known as The Hoot, the musician-based open stage was established over twenty years ago, and its history was documented in the film “Hoot in the Hole” which debuted in 2008. Folk music rests at its core. Always sustaining a dedicated, attentive audience and a roster of faithful strummers that are keen at digging up traditional, obscure and storied songs, ballads and laments, there’s a reciprocal tradition that is fueled by intimacy and regularity. You have no excuse for letting cabin fever take hold early. Note that chatting is discouraged during performances, which run about ten minutes each. The Hoot welcomes acoustic-based, local and traveling musicians to perform a two-song set at 6 p.m., Monday, at Dornan’s in Moose. Sign-up begins at 5:30 p.m., and the list tends to fill quickly. 733-2415.
