The Goods: Afroman Gets High at Tavern
By Aaron Davis (for Jackson Hole Weekly, JHWeekly.com)If space allowed, it would be worth printing the entire lyric sheet to Afroman’s Grammy nominated track from 2002, “Because I Got High.” You may remember the hilarious stoner anthem from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back or The Perfect Score. If not, it’s worth a visit to YouTube to hear his straight-forward lines about the inability to complete everyday tasks because of his weed habit: “I was gonna go to class before I got high / I coulda cheated and I coulda passed but I got high / I am taking it next semester and I know why / Cause I got high.”Bringing to mind Biz Markie and Cypress Hill, the drummer/guitarist comes from the old school, feel good entourage of early rap. Straight up—this guy is funny. Though he’s put out 15 albums since 1998, Afroman began releasing his music independently via his website in 2004. Afroman performs at 10 p.m., Thursday, at Town Square Tavern. Tickets are $10/advance or $12/day-of-show and on sale at the Tavern’s liquor store. DJ Just Kenny opens. Presented by 307 Live. 733-3886.
