The Goods (9.21.11 - 9.27.11)
By Aaron Davis (for Jackson Hole Weekly, JHWeekly.com)Creamer and Wells A musical friendship that spawned in roots-rock band Bo Hog Grind, Greg Creamer (lead vocal, acoustic guitar) and Ted Wells (acoustic and electric banjos, pedal steel, vocals) are settling into their third year as a duo. Both are tremendous instrumentalists with a great sense of rhythm and space.“We aren’t scared to work on the spacing factor … the spacing between notes,” Creamer said from his PureLand Recording studio in Driggs. “There’s a real scare of letting a note ring out for a four-count. People want to fill up the holes.”Creamer also plays in Chanman Roots Band and is a go-to sideman. The songwriter carries with him early influences of Yes, Genesis and Peter Gabriel alongside a love for soul, country, blues and contemporary New Orleans music a la Sonny Landreth and The Neville Brothers. Ted Wells is a founding member of bluegrass quartet Loose Ties with Ben Winship and Phil Round, and operates Alpenglow Farms in Victor.Greg Creamer and Ted Wells, 8 p.m., Wednesday, Alpine Wines. The feeling of an open-air concert, even if not the primary focus, is a great vibe for the heart of town. Events that come to mind: The Deadlocks’ Downtown Shakedown, Old Bill’s Fun Run, the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race, Palates and Palettes, and the weekly JH Farmers Market. Now it’s time to celebrate the short harvest season coming to an end with the Jackson Hole Farmers Market’s Fall Festival (see Culture Matters, page 12, for more details).A completely free event, experience a pedestrian downtown highlighted by a harvest lunch with food donated by farmers, nonprofit booths, and three bands on the Broadway stage.Medicine Tree at 10 a.m., Irish group Slip and The Jigs at 11 a.m., and Americana-country-blues quartet Aaron Davis and The Docks at noon, Saturday, on Town Square.
