The Goods (10.5.11 - 10.11.11)

By Aaron Davis (for Jackson Hole Weekly, JHWeekly.com)OktoberfestThe golden hues of autumn mean micro-brews, hard rock, and racing for the German-inspired Oktoberfest Celebration in Victor’s Pioneer Park. The Teton Valley Foundation, Grand Teton Brewery and Victor Velo are collaborating to show you (and your family) a good time while also raising money to support youth and adult hockey programs at Kotler Ice Arena.Taking place on the same weekend and in the same location as Victor Velo’s two-day Moosecross race, the event will feature Canadian AC/DC cover band, BC/DC. Unlike most tribute acts claiming to be “just like the real thing", the band takes a comedic approach, claiming the tunes as their own and showcasing over-the-top stage energy. BC/DC is heavily rooted in the Bon Scott-era catalog (“Dirty Deeds,” “TNT,” and “Let There Be Rock”), but also covers AC/DC's second golden era with all the essentials (“Back in Black,” “For Those About to Rock,” and “Hells Bells”).Couple this with beer and brats, kids activities (a bounce house, pumpkin decorating), and adult games (keg toss, ladies stein holding competition), and this is bound to be the quirkiest event of the season.Oktoberfest 2011 is 4 to 10 p.m., Saturday, at Kotler Ice Arena in Victor. Admission is $10. TetonValleyFoundation.org, MooseCross.com or 208-201-3931. Water & words at T-LineMosley Wotta—a play on “mostly water”—gives its own hip-hop foundation branches by describing its sound as “grippo” and “muthop.” It’s not clear to this listener, or the wondrous Internet, what this may mean in music terms, but grippo translates to “helmet” in Italian. Perhaps bandleader and wordsmith Jason Graham is prepping for a poetry slam that could get ugly.I doubt this, though, because the Bend, Oregon-based live rap ensemble is uplifting rather than hard-core—promoting “the global truths of empathy and evolution.” Behind Graham is a quintet of bass, drums, keys/percussion, guitar/samples, and a female backing vocalist.Mosley Wotta plays at 9:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, at the Timberline Bar in Victor. Admission is $10 at the door. 208-787-2639.tags: jackson hole music band songwriter nightlife wyoming center arts photographer musician planet teton venues
