Donavan Frankenreiter, Rayland Baxter & Eric Tollefson at Center
(Published in Planet JH Weekly, additional content added)Not unlike longtime friend Jack Johnson, Donavan Frankenreiter’s songs fall into the realm of pleasant feel good music, usually gripping an “everything’s going to be O.K.” message. The notion of filling a cabin-fevered audience full of optimism is only a glimpse of the sun and the beach, a gateway into the love-inspired, kitchen sink percussion, folk-pop vibe of his latest release, Start Livin’. A deeply introspective songwriter, I’ll be attending this show solely from listening to Rayland Baxter for about thirty minutes. That’s all it took to realize this guy has some poetic stories to tell that ramble from Nashville to Colorado to Israel, accompanied by the simplicity of an acoustic guitar. Do yourself a favor and check out his 2012 release Feathers & Fishhooks.Opener Eric Tollefson, a singer-songwriter from Bend, Oregon, will open the evening with acoustic emo-pop that Dave Matthews fans would dig. Donavan Frankenreiter, Rayland Baxter and Eric Tollefson, 7 p.m. Monday at the Center Theater. $25-$55. JHCenterForTheArts.org or 733-4900.
