I love recording instruments that I have no legitimacy playing. It puts me in a zone. But the pedal steel is a different beast. Much like sitting behind a drum kit for me, the complexity of all limbs on deck is an anomaly for my brain. Laughter helps to ease the squirrelly intonation.
The month of October has been dedicated to recording my next solo album, though it’s far from ‘solo.’ The Mystery Machine dudes have been rockin’ with me, and I’ve enlisted a handful of vocalists and Wyoming music celebs to join me. This will be my ninth studio album and again, I’ve learned so much and been humbled by the process. Having the luxury of time and space has slowed my roll, but I can’t say the songs haven’t grown for the better from experimentation.
I have a couple of recording projects on the books at Three Hearted Recording for early winter, though have some availability near the first of the year if there’s anyone reading this that wants to make some stellar music together in a log cabin in Jackson Hole!
