Rear View Mirror.
My last newsletter reached you in January, but since I've been in the midst of a much needed, prolific song spree. The latest batch of tunes feel really different from anything on Rear View Mirror—some gritty blues, some new open tunings that have helped conceive simplistic folk, a couple of laidback rockers, a quirky bluegrass ditty, and even a punk tune. But as you can see, I’m still all over the place. I would get bored otherwise.
Some BIGGER news—I’m moving to
Austin, Texas in the fall. My lady and music counterpart Seadar Rose (
www.seadarrose.com) just returned from a six-month sabbatical in the Live Music Capital, and on three occasions I was able to scope the vibrant scene for myself. Our intention is to winter in Austin and return to Jackson Hole for summer. The best of both worlds, right?
With that said, I’m anxious to find what lies ahead. Austin is an endless buffet of all types of music, which I dig. It will be cool to be surrounded by, and take part in an atmosphere that is focused on songwriting. I can always use the extra fuel. And logistically, I imagine it will be a good home base for touring.
Anyone needing to rent a Jackson Hole condo for 6-7 months, October-April?
A fall tour is in the works for the Southeast...
Projects Update:
Screen Door Porch, with Seadar, is back in full swing. We’ve been doing a lot of co-writing and building a new repertoire that will have a much more layered sound than the duo—including cellist Vince Gutwein (JH Symphony), percussionist Barry Lewis (Global Review), drummer Andy Peterson (The Docks), and a bassist TBD. Summer shows will feature SDP as a duo, quartet and sextet. SDP will open for
Jalan Crossland Band at the
Soundcheck Concert Series on
June 27 in Pinedale.
Global Review had a great run of shows in early April – at the Trap Bar at Grand Targhee Resort and for a rowdy après-ski party at the Mangy Mangy on closing day of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. GR will play a handful of shows this summer.
AD & The Docks will be kicking off a full summer of shows this
Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday May 23 at
South Side Pub (No cover). This is a day show (4-7pm), so come out and enjoy live music with incredible Teton views and bomber pizza. We’ll also be at the
Silver Dollar May 29-30 (with ace guitarist Greg Creamer), and at the
Mangy Moose on June 13.
A
Boondocks reunion is set for
Friday, July 10 at the
Mangy Moose! This will be the only Boondocks show of 2009. Our friends Benyaro from New York City as well as Screen Door Porch will open.
Thanks for supporting the music. I hope to see you at a show sometime in the near future!
